The Report
Strategic Planning
Strategic planning involves a series of planning-level activities designed to analyze an organizations external and internal environment, assess needs, and propose a course of action. It is during the strategic planning phase that:
- Stakeholders are identified
- An environmental STEEP (Social, Technological, Environmental, Economic, and Political) scan is completed
- A SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis is undertaken (Morrison, Forbes, & Wilkinson, 2000)
- Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are identified (Rowley, Lujan and Dolence, 1997)
- Key decision makers are involved
- Mission and vision statements are developed
This course is part of a larger degree seeking program; the Multimedia Concentration of the Visual Communications Graphic Design Program. It is a component of an Associate in Applied Arts degree. Although a needs analysis, environmental scan, and industry analysis was conducted in the creation of this course, much of the strategic planning that identified the need for this course was completed prior to my involvement with the program. The results of my research, combined with data provided by the Division Dean, can be viewed in the Project Proposal that was created as my final project in the business management course EDU544: Business Management for Learning Organizations.
